You would like to think that something as easy as a sack barrow would be a fairly easy write up for me to do, but you would be amazed at how complex, adaptable and down right useful these things can be...................
What is a sack truck?
In theory this is just two wheels mounted on a frame with a plate to hold the load, but it not quite as simple as that. in this passage I will talk you through some of the basics but also some of the weird and wonderful bits that can be added to you sack truck or barrow that can really make it a joy to work with. i will take a look at some of the adaptations to this equipment that will certain make you look at your hand truck in a hole new light, and I will go through some of the dedicated pieces of equipment that you can find to carry out some very specific tasks.
Why would I use a sack truck?
If you need to move anything from a to b along floor level this is the most simple of tools to help you do it. You can move objects that you simply wouldn't usually be able to move without the help of a tool like the barrow. You can move multiple objects in one movement, move object 3 or 4 times your own body weight, its quick, its easy, its safe, and it remarkable cheap to do so.
Let take 10 minutes to look at some of the type of sack trolley that you can use.
Other than the basic sack truck there are hundreds of options tailored for the job you are looking to do.
Folding Sack Trucks there are differing ways in which your sack truck can fold or become smaller than it originally looked, they can fold in half, and the sack truck can be telescopic. But the most important thing is that the sack barrow takes up a lot less space in the vehicle than it had originally, if you are in transport or logistics. If you sack truck takes up space then that is space in the vehicle that you can sell to your customers, so the smaller you can make your hand truck the more cost effective it will become. Be careful some folding trucks aren't as strong as there fixed frame counterparts.
Stair Climbing Sack Trucks These are the strange hand trucks that you see with six wheels, three on each side, it's not the only way to climb stair but the most common way for sure. The wheels hit the stair and the independent motion of the stair climbing sack truck wheels kicks the next wheel on to the next stair up. You can also help when climbing up and down stairs with stair skids fitted to normal sack trucks. If you want to get really fancy you can look at powered stair walking sack trucks, these are very expensive but really will tae the back breaking work out of the job.
Modular Designed Sack Trucks There are only two real manufacturers of the aluminum sack trucks with a modular designed these are Magliner from the USA and Expresso from Germany. there are other copied sack barrows on the market, that are made in China, but only look at these as the genuine quality manufacturers. It's seems a more complicated than it really is. You simply pick and choose the parts that you need, start with your sack truck frame, these are either straight back or curved back, plastic braces or aluminum. Then add the handle which is most suitable for the application, add a toe plate and the wheels, and you have your basic truck. There are many other options, including, document pouches, curb ramps, personalization strips, and many many more.
Chair Sack Truck, there are some differing options even with chair sack truck, these are use predominantly by, schools, colleges, churches, hospital, and care homes, for moving stacks of chairs. There are very simple ones that have large toe plates, where the foot print of the chair leg simply sits on the foot plate of the sack truck. Or where there are flanges on the sides of the plate to retain the chairs on the plate of the sack truck. My favored option for health and safety reasons are the chair trucks that have the adjustable prongs on the barrow that sit under the seat of the chair. These sack trucks give you a lot better stability on the load and are often supplied with straps so that you can retain the load to the sack truck a lot more easily and securely.
Gas Bottle Moving Sack Truck, is all you need to do is spend an hour or two in hospital to understand the variety of gas bottle sack trucks available. With the gas suppliers refusing to standardize bottle diameters, or sizes. So this mean we need to make a sack truck that suits as many as possible as safely as possible. When dealing with the NHS, health and safety quite rightly is very important so you inherently with find there is a gas bottle trolley for pretty much every gas bottle.
Beer Barrel Sack Trucks, Why do you need a trolley to move a barrel of beer, when you can simply roll the barrel. Well that would be fine however the health and safety executive doesn't like you rolling barrels of beer, so the safest and quickest way is to use a dedicated sack truck for beer barrels. These have a curved back and a hook to slide up and down, so that the sack truck locks on to the rim of the keg. This will ensure that the keg always remain locked into the back of the sack barrow.
Convertible Sack Trucks, the original sack truck that converts to a trolley is the Gemini from Magliner, is by far still the best convertible truck trolley in the market. There are many copies available, so of these direct rip off of the Magliner Brand, trucks like the Alu-Truck, even though the quality of these products can be acceptable, the prices are not a great deal of the original Magliner Truck. If there’s any advice you should take today its the fact the YOU CAN NOT BEAT A MAGLINER QUALITY ............. if your going to be a cheap skate then in the long run it will cost you more in lost productivity and repairs...... Be warned ;-).
Heavy Duty Sack Trucks with Long Toe Plates Trucks or Foot Plates, Flat Back Sack Trucks, Or Curved Back Barrows Basic Sack Trucks and Traditional Sack Trucks these are generally made from heavy duty angle iron.
This type of sack truck are very heavy duty, a flat back truck is best for moving your white goods, because the back rests against flat sides or back of the white goods. These sack trucks can also be used for Couriers due to its lattice back it helps support boxes of every size A long toe plate or foot plate with a curved back would help you move the more rounded items such as gas cylinders, this type of barrow is also good for carrying rounded plant pots, it has the long toe plate or nose plate is good for supporting the base and the rounded back supports the top. A basic Sack truck has an open footplate which makes the overall weight of the truck a lot lighter making it easier to lift in and out of vehicles. These items can be also used on delivery vans as they are very light, These are the type of sack barrows used by various wine merchants and food service companies.
Heavy duty Aluminum Sack Truck with a lattice back is lightweight but is still very heavy duty, these items sometime have Steel Footplate's but also aluminum and magnesium foot plates. Diamond toe sack trucks are more commonly used for lifting products that are proving awkward to get at as the end of the toe plate can get under objects with a lot more ease, they also are generally made as a straight back sack truck, for lifting objects like a refrigerator so it doesn't’t have much chance of moving around too much. A Pneumatic barrow sack truck is one of the more commonly used sack trucks/sack barrows as it can be used for many different jobs they will normally come with a slight curved frame so it can be used as a water bottle sack truck with minimal fuss.
Mesh back sack trucks are also very popular for company’s carrying smaller loads as they are still a strong reliable truck that will not let the smaller loads fall through gaps that your other trucks will commonly have.
Heavy duty drum truck, can come in either 2 or 4 wheels, the four wheel versions help to relieves the amount of effort needed support the load. Adjustable brace clamps on the rim of the steel drums to ensure stability There are also Small drum dollies to help move oil and chemical drums. these things are very heavy so handling equipment is very important.
Traditional and versatile sack trucks, which have been used for hundreds of years, and will still continue to be used for many years to come, while we still have to move goods in this virtual world we will still need sack trucks. and hand trucks
Rough Terrain Sack Trucks do exactly whet it says on the tin. They are usually designed as a trolley for a uneven ground such as a sack truck for farms, a trolley building sites, or as an equestrian center barrow or for moving head stones this is done by adding large sack truck tires and wheels onto the trucks, these are usually air filled pneumatic trolley wheels, but this is not always the case and oversized solid wheels are also used if the load is not to heavy, therefore the wheels don’t sink into the ground.
I even saw, whilst on my travels a genuine old fashion wooden framed sack truck, this was amazing. I was as though it was design a hundred years ago but you could see the thing was brand new. It was like a scene from Steptoe and soon, with a father and son team moving a safe that looked like it had been in situ for a hundred years, being moved by a sack truck that was design a hundred years ago, and to be honest moved by a chap that looked as though he was a hundred years old. But he was moving this safe, like you would push a knife through butter. The safe on the trolley must have been 40 inches high with a 30 inch by 30 inch base, it must have weighed 400-500kg looking at the size of it.
Home delivery distribution networks are springing up all over the country, with internet deliveries now from manufacturers and importers going directly to the end user, the need for distribution companies to be able to transport the products directly to the customers door. There are many different trolley solutions for this. The need for a flexible sack truck on the back of the distribution vehicle is becoming more and more important, now that such a variety of differing shapes and sizes are being transported. This give the sack truck or trolley manufacturers a really headache to provide a one size fits all solution. rather than a cheap chinese hand truck
Can delivering something like a fruit machine or large vending machine, or server cabinet, be delivered and instlled by one man.............? usually this is the type of delivery woudl be a two man/lady delivery, due to the great weights and bulk of the product being delivered. however while scouring the net, we came across this ingenious peice of kit that helps the operator tilt the load to over a 45 degree position, and and return it back to the upright position, with just one hand, further more when the goods are at the 45 degree position, the goods on the trolley are stabilized by way of two support castors. The Gas strut assisted sack truck, a sack truck designed specially for moving server cabinets fruit machines and large vernding macines. also has an additional foot operated lever to help wiith the initial tilting back of the load, then the gas strut kicks in to help the operator lean the load, this genuinely can be done with 300kg and one hand, making a usually awkward joib remarkably easy.
